I’m proud to announce the first ever Workload Identity Day Zero at Kubecon NA!
Set to run on the 12th of November at the amazing Venafi HQ in Salt Lake City, we’re bringing together the best thinkers, end users, open source contributors, and community leaders from the world of workload identity to discuss this fascinating and fast growing space.
The event will feature major industry thought leaders with keynote addresses from Evan Gilman, the founder of SPIRE, and Liz Rice, Chief Open Source Officer at Isovalent.
What’s a workload identity I hear you ask? You’re already familiar with human identities and the importance of securing those inside your business with usernames, passwords, and single sign on.
Well, there are also a vast number of machines running inside your business that need proper identity management. These can be physical machines like laptops or servers, or software ‘workloads’ like containers, applications or services.
Thanks to Kubernetes, and cloud native architecture, these workloads are EXPLODING across an ever more diverse set of environments. This growing number of critical cloud native identities leads to all sorts of issues including:
- Identity silos
- Inconsistent identity types
- Secret sprawl, complexity and leakage
- Secret Zero risk
- Single-Factor authentication
As this happens, it creates a big challenge for security teams, who have to deal with ever-increasing complexity, and grapple with how to secure workloads ‘outside of the perimeter.’
This unique combination of factors leads to more risks—including attack, leakage and outage. These risks provide a strong impetus to reinvent how we protect ourselves.
The industry is waking up to the realization that identity holds the key to securing our workloads and enabling Zero Trust environments. As one analyst put it, ‘identity is the new perimeter’.
And that’s why we created this event!
We wanted to bring together key players to explore how to tackle these problems, share best practices, and do what we know how to do best in the CNCF community—build an ecosystem together! What better place to do that than Kubecon.
So, if you’ll be in Salt Lake City, please do join us. Not only will you learn much more about this space, you’ll also be able to meet a load of interesting people and be able to share a few drinks with us afterwards.
