We just wrapped up the first day of Machine Identity Management Summit 2023. And as we looked into the future of machine identities management, it was stellar! But throughout the day, innovation was readily apparent all around. We heard from innovating industry leaders from BMC, Chainguard, Elevance Health, First Citizen’s Bank, HCSC, Home Depot, HID Global, Hitachi Vantara, Isovalent, Jacobs Engineering, Optiv and Tetrate. We gained important insights from forward-thinking Venafi leaders. We saw new advancements in action. And we saw innovators from our $12.5 million dollar Machine Identity Management Development go head to head in an Escape Gravity Challenge where they had to convince summit attendees of the ultimate value of their innovation.
But before we get to the highlights of the day, make sure you don’t miss out on any of the action on day two. Register now to see the event streamed live and later on replay.
The Future Is Yours to Win: Stellar keynotes
Keynote addresses illuminated the future and showcased real-world advances that move us well into that realm. Venafi Chief Executive Officer Jeff Hudson spoke on why identity is the foundation of security. And how, as identity becomes a bigger part of everything, complexity will only go up. Monolithic solutions will only become more complex, simplicity will become the order of the day. To meet that mandate, we need to look at machine identity management strategies that deliver observability, policy control and consistency at a local level. In many cases, this may prove to be the only strategy that can speed up application development and deployment—which will be the life blood of future success in a software-first world.
How your peers are innovating
Venafi Chief Marketing Officer, Sandeep Singh Kohli, invited the audience to imagine a future where simplicity is the rule and success is the end game. To illustrate this future proofing, Sandeep then invited three Venafi customers to share how that vision has already become a reality in their organizations. Here are their future-forward strategies:
- Scott Barrington, Diebold Nixdorf: Futureproofing with SaaS and cloud native
- David Bliss, PNC Financial Services Group: Quantum computing and futureproofing
- Judson Bender, OneAmerica: Future proofing security within the development platforms
Continuing a long history of Venafi innovation
After that, Venafi Chief Product Officer Shivajee Samdarshi, shared the many SaaS platform innovations that were announced this morning. Here’s a short list from this morning’s announcement:
- Futureproofing machine identity management with Venafi Quantum Protect
- Extending the next-generation experience for TLS Protect for Kubernetes
- Delivering enterprise-grade, long-term support for cert-manager
- Supporting GDPR with Control Plane availability in U.S. and EU regions
- Empowering developers with our new hub: Dev Central
- Expanding rapid-fire issuance with native support for public clouds
- Enhancing support for automation in VCert 5.1
Innovation relies on automation
The closer for the collaborative keynote was Mike Dodson, Chief Customer Officer at Venafi. He spoke on a common behavior that futureproofs businesses: A maniacal focus on automation. Indeed, automation helps them respond faster to new business opportunities and competitive threats. And it gives their teams more bandwidth to work on strategic projects. He noted that only Venafi has everything organizations need to support the automation of every machine identity: expertise, ecosystem and extensive capabilities. In conclusion, he encouraged all organizations to be relentless in their pursuit of automation, as it can only drive success now and into the future.
Escape Gravity Challenge: Testing the value of innovation
For the first time ever, Machine Identity Management Summit attendees got the chance to vote on a shortlist of innovative developers competing to become the leading innovator in machine identity management. In an Escape Gravity Challenge, leading innovators made strong pitches to convince viewers of the ultimate value of their solutions.
Escape Gravity Challenge winner
- Congratulations to Entro for their work in detecting and synchronizing certificates created outside standard policies.
Runners up
- APIIDA: Automating machine identities for API gateways.
- Corsha: Enabling zero-trust access for API services.
- Device Authority: Automating machine identity lifecycles and code signing for IoT
- Nirmata: Stopping unauthorized code from running in Kubernetes.
- Otterize: Enabling security policy compliance for developers using cert-manager.
Venafi Warrior of the Year award
The Warrior Community member who goes above and beyond to solve more machine identity management problems. The award went to Daryl Horton of Insperity. Congratulations Daryl. He commented that in addition to answering questions for others, “I've used the community primarily to ask questions about how to better automate processes using Venafi.” In addition, Daryl speaks of the overall benefits, The support that I've received from the community has helped me provide a better quality of service to my end users and provide them an environment that meets their needs.” In Daryl’s name, Venafi made a donation to his recommended charity, Disabled Veterans of America.
