Venafi, the leading provider of Next-Generation Trust Protection, today announced during RSA Conference 2014 the executive appointment of Tammy Moskites as its Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Moskites brings 25 years of cyber security experience and leadership, having led security teams at Time Warner Cable and The Home Depot. Moskites will help CISOs fortify their strategies to defend against increasingly complex and damaging cyberattacks against the trust established by cryptographic keys and digital certificates.
Keys and certificates establish online trust for payments and transactions, data storage and access, mobile devices and cloud applications in all Global 2000 organizations. However, cyber criminals have learned to take advantage of the dependence and blind trust that organizations place in keys and certificates. Recent advanced persistent threat (APT) attacks such as The Mask, for instance, demonstrate that cybercriminals are exploiting the vulnerabilities created from unsecured keys and certificates. Once compromised, the attackers have free reign on the target’s networks and remain unprotected for long periods of time. They have become trusted.
"Tammy brings tremendous knowledge and experience to Venafi and our customers," said Jeff Hudson, Venafi CEO. “The safety, security, and privacy of ecommerce, the cloud, and mobile devices and users all depend on securing the trust established by keys and certificates. Tammy’s professional experience, leadership and recognized domain expertise as the CISO of Global 250 companies will help fellow CISOs defend their organizations. The gap in securing keys and certificates leaves the door open for cybercriminals. Tammy’s leadership and experience will help other CISOs close these open doors.”
Prior to joining Venafi, Moskites served as CISO with Time Warner Cable (TWC), where one of her many responsibilities was to reengineer and centralize the Information Security and IT Compliance organizations to support Global Operations. Tammy also held the CISO position with The Home Depot, where she provided strategic executive and collaborative business direction for several teams including, but not limited to Identity and Access Management, IT Compliance and Regulatory, eDiscovery and Forensics, Encryption and more. Other relevant security experience includes Huntington National Bank; Complete Information Technologies, LLC; BankOne; Nationwide and Aetna.
Tammy is also a leader in the most important IT security organizations including ISSA, ISACA, InfraGard and the Information Risk Security Board. She recently won the Top Women in Technology award for 2013 and the 2013 Top 25 Breakaway Leaders Award, and was the 2012 North American Information Security Executive of the Year People’s Choice Winner. Tammy is a member of the advisory boards of Box and Qualys, and provides strategic guidance to other industry leading security vendors.
“Cybercriminals are looking to attack businesses and governments with increased ferocity to steal intellectual property, customer data, and protected heath information (PHI). Attackers have identified that keys and certificates provide the perfect recipe to gain trusted status in order to breach their targets and gain a long-term foothold to monitor and impersonate their targets,” said Tammy Moskites, Venafi CISO. “Security teams today have little to no ability to identify and fix key and certificate vulnerabilities, detect new anomalous activity, and respond and remediate quickly to cut off attackers. As a former CISO of Fortune-500 ranked organizations and leader of innovative security teams, I look forward to helping fellow CISOs develop strategies to stop these new attacks and defend their enterprises.”
